The name Fanny enjoyed quite some popularity in 19th century Germany. The popularity was due to anglophile tendencies, specially in Northern Germany with its sea ports and international trade cities. It was a registered given name, understood as a form of Franzizka (Frances). It is quite plausible that Baltic Germans and Baltic Jews were also affected by this trend.
