I like it a lot, but this is one of those names that surprises me with its popularity. I find
Eleanor very clunky, as "ugly" as
Elmer and
Selma and Helmer and
Sheldon and all those other names most people wouldn't take a second look at. I love it for that, but I'm always surprised regular people like it too. Maybe it seems lumpier to me because my family pronounces it like "Ellen-er" (I have a great-aunt
Eleanor), not the delicate "ella-nor".
