Re: Miriam or Liora
Liora seems pointedly Hebrew to me, which isn't a bad thing of course but I happen to know you're not Jewish, and Hebrew names seem weirdly trendy among non-Jews, which doesn't really happen with any other ethnic/foreign names, and it is kinda weird to me, I would not use a Hebrew name that had no mainstream/traditional English-speaking-Christian cultural heritage, it'd be like using Aditi or Xue or Asra ... except not, because it'd be sort of also like using Suri or Apple or Cruz.MARY. Use Mary!Languages aside and thinking only of superficial appeal, Liora is prettier than Miriam and I'd rather be Liora.
But I still like Miriam okay.

On Mary...My mom has started referring to the baby as Mary, for reasons I cannot understand. I've had to correct her several times.I think we're going to continue to go with Miriam. It's a kinda of a family thing - it's Christian, and Catholic, and old testament - so it fits into the extended family well. I had no idea that naming a child - and understanding that both my daughter and myself will be judged on her name - would be so hard. :-/ My husband doesn't get this - he would be fine naming our daughter Anastasia and insisting on the pronunciation of ana--stas-ee-a
