Giles
I'm in mad love with Giles right now. I love that it is so studious, rather rare, has a tie to the ancient world, and a fun meaning to boot ("young goat").What do you think of Giles, and how would you combo it? I'm liking Giles Ferdinand - so brazenly nerdy, it's gutsy.

At first I thought nah it makes me think of a male hairdresser (the only Giles I know is a male hairdresser - straight btw) but actually when i think about it, it falls into the same category as Gideon for me, which i'm quite fond of so maybe Giles will grow on meFerdinand makes Giles cooler, more stylish

*claps with glee*Giles Crispian Piers - so grand, and Piers would sort of be an hommage to my great-grandfather, Pierre. Actually, Giles Crispin Pierre has a nice ring to it, no?
Giles Franklin - ohh another lovely green-in-green combo
Giles Geoffrey - I love the alliteration, and my brother's name is Jeffrey :)
Giles Lawrence - ever so regal
Giles Malcolm - Handsome town! So stoic.
Giles Ode Nestor - Giles Otto Nestor is more my style, but your combo has better flow... hmm
Giles Sherlock - Sherlock Giles sounds nicer, but Sherlock would be the coolest middle name ever...
Giles Webster - so nice, so smart
Giles Wendelin Knut - what! Yes!Thank you!

Your welcome! Thanks for complimenting my combos.
Giles Crispin Pierre does have a nice ring to it; I like it better than Giles Crispian Piers.
And Giles always seemed like a reddish color to me, but really any earthy color works.

I used to think Giles was too stuffy, but now I know a Giles who is fun-loving and adventurous and it has changed Giles for me. Still the charm of moderate nerdhood, but paired with a real-life great guy. Giles Ferdinand is brazenly nerdy indeed. The Giles I know is Giles Everett. Which I would guess is a 4 year old, but he's actually 29. I think those parents were gutsy and I love it!

I like it. It's classy and playful all at once. It sounds like the name of a well-traveled gent. Giles Ferdinand has an excellent flow. I'd probably go with Giles Alaric or Giles Theodore.

Why did I bother? I should have seen your name and known you'd come up with magical combos. Giles Tancred and Giles Leopold are my favs.

There are a lot of golden ones here. I think my favorites are Giles Ahab, Giles Ambrose, Giles Arthur, Giles Benoit, Giles Horatio and Giles Verne (yeah I know, that's pretty indecisive. And I feel like the rest are now left unloved).
Please let Giles Verne be a homage to Jules Verne. :P

treasures, treasures!Giles Arthur - oh, the dusty soul of kindness
Giles Barnaby - so pastoral, the village lawyer
Giles Francis - I thought of this one too. It is so genteel. I am having reservations about using Francis; like I would be overstepping boundaries if I did. I'll be making a post about that soon, I'd be interested in hearing opinions on it.
Giles Frederick - one of the other things I enjoy about Giles is how green it is. Frederick is also a "green" name to me, so these go together like two peas in a pod - literally
Giles Godfrey
Giles Homer - you're appealing to my Classicist's heart here
Giles Horatio - and again here, plus the connection to Horace, my tragic great-grandfather
Giles Irving - so sage and authoritative!
Giles Ludwig
Giles Norman
Giles Rupert - Ah, Rupert Giles :) He was my favourite on Buffy, too! I had a bit of a crush on him.
Giles Tristram
Giles Vernon - an incarnation of Jules Verne, mayhaps?Thank you, as always :)

I usually associate it with Giles Corey, one of the characters from The Crucible. Not a bad association, though. Giles is a nice name.

Hehe, I have to like Giles Ferdinand. I pretty much agree with your description: studious, rare, ancient world, and 'young goat'. I wouldn't use it, but it's neat. It makes me think of "Farmer Giles of Ham" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmer_Giles_of_Ham
