Somebody in your Violet thread said...
...that Violet is a form of Ione. Did you know that before? It's kind of cool that two of your favorite names are connected like that. I don't think it's even remotely common. I googled it, and it was mostly links to cities, companies, or products with Ione in the name. It is pretty though.

Iole, not IoneI believe Violet is related to Iole, not Ione. The meanings here on BtN list Iole as "violet" and Ione as a place name.

I didn't know that Violet and Ione were etymologically related. And yes, I do agree that it's cool that two of my fave names for females are connected. In my experience, Ione certainly isn't a common name, though it may have been more common earlier in the 20th century.
