I want to like it but can't...

I just find the sound really unappealing, plain and very old-fashioned without having any sort of vintage charm. Perhaps Maude would be a slightly nicer spelling?
It does have a great namesake in L.M. Montgomery, (known as Maud), who wrote the Anne of Green Gables books. Also, it was fairly fashionable in France around 10-15-20 years ago. There are a fair few lovely young girls named Maud wandering around France at the moment, which I find really weird.

See, I only like it Maud - Maude, to me, looks so much older. I have no idea why.
And I'd forgotten about L.M. Montgomery, although I love her books, too. That does make the name even more appealing. I wonder if it was paired with the right middle name if it could come off more charming?
