My 11-year-old nephew is named Curtis Scott Lastname. So I'm a little partial. :b He was named after a family friend, and it took my parents and I a bit of time to warm to the name. But from the moment we found out he was a boy (while my sister was pregnant), we called him Curtis so we really liked it and associated it with him by the time he was born. :) He doesn't have any problems with it at school, yet, except occasionally being called Dirt-is. But he's not dirty, so it's just a silly thing. Kids can make fun of anything, I guess. We sometimes call him Curt, but he's mostly Curtis. I love the name now, and I highly recommend to people. It's recognizable but not overused. Pretty easy to spell (though occasionally he gets Kurtis/Kurt). It's handsome, and masculine, and means "courteous" which our Curtis happens to be. :) Not sure where you are, but we're in the U.S. (in FL) and since our Curtis was born it was brought to our attention that there are a lot of black men--esp. in their 20s-40s--named Curtis. Doesn't bother him or anyone of us in the least, we just weren't aware of it, and found it quite interesting. :b Fifty Cent, the rapper, his real name is Curtis, btw.
