I love it and like it best as a nickname for Nicodemus, or possibly Andronicus too since you brought it to the table. I honestly never considered that idea before..
Nico feels like the quintessential male nickname to me, so fun, handsome, casual, youthful, energetic and sporty. It makes me think of a popular but kind young boy at summer camp climbing in a tree. And if he wanted he could fall back on his legal name when he's older and enters the workforce.
