Personally I find the name too elderly. The only Dolores I've known irl have all been over 60. Dot has been their usual nicknames which also sounds very dated. Lola might work on its own but it seems more of a dog name to me.
Also Dolores Umbridge is literally the first person I think of and she's not a pleasant association.
I don't give much thought in meanings personally.
Maybe as a middle name?
