I don’t like it on its own at all. As a nickname it’s okay, but a bit overused since it can be the nn for a lot of great names.
Ella has become especially popular in my area as people are starting to understand the popularity of
Emma, but are incapable of really thinking outside the box.
For a longer name I like
Elizabeth (though I prefer most of its other nicknames, like
Lisbet,
Betty or
Beth)
ElspethElinor,
Eleanor or
Eleanora (though I prefer
Nora)
ÉlodieEloiseEstelleFiorella
Lily is a lovely name (it’s my daughter’s mn) but it has too many repeated sounds with
Ellie. It’s a tongue twister, plus if you call either name across the house and nobody’d know who you were calling.
