Re: Some unusual names in Belgian primary school (long list)
I live in Belgium too and my husband's a primary school teacher, he comes across the weirdest names at his school too :-) Sabeth (guess this is a short form of Elisabeth): not sure, I could get used to it.
Benoni (boy, prn. Beh-NO-nee): kind of cute for a little boy, but when he grows up...
Alani (girl, prn. Ah-LAH-nee): I don't like it, a bit tacky
Esperanza: no. Just no.
Zino (prn. Zee-no): ugh, no
Iboyka (prn. EE-boy-kah): is this a boy? It sounds kind of cute
Dante (prn. DAHN-tay): pretty common in Belgium, I'd say. I hate this name.
Virgil (prn. Veer-GHIL): I kind of like it
Felten (boy, prn. FEL-tehn): not too bad
Humphrey: not sure, a bit old fashioned, but very unique in Belgium.
Héloïse: I really like this name
Cypriaan (prn. as Cyprian with a stress on the 'a'): very nice
Livia: a bit boring
Theodor: i LOVE Theodor, it's on our list of baby names
Klara: old fashioned
Atalia: not my style
Indra (girl): don't like it
Laïs (girl, prn. LAH-ees): this reminds me of that Belgian band
Léontine: ugh, that's so old lady-ish
Jerko: just ugly
Indiana: kind of cute
Wolf: I really like Wolf
Jupiter (no kidding ...): weird
Phil: oh, poor boy
Tanisha: American tacky name
Annette: I like this name
Salie (girl, prn. SAH-lee, means 'sage' in Dutch): well, since Tijmen and other plant names are used, I think Salie is ok. I actually like it
Kay: nice if it's a boy
Eben (prn. AY-ben): I LOVE Eben
Feline: that's an ugly name
Parsifal: a bit over the top, but not too bad
Carlotta: I really like this one
Ona - Louise: not that bad.
