The slang is the same in Australia too. Dag literally means dried poop stuck to a sheep's bottom but we also use it as a not so serious insult. Kind of like "You're such a dag" to describe someone being silly or stupid. It isn't something you'd call someone behind their back though, it is more something you use to people who have a good relationship with.

I never realized until this post that it was an Australian/NZ slang term. I was always so puzzled why Dagmar and Dagny get any love at all.
