Keren would get mistaken for the rather dated
Karen and is too close to it for comfort. That "ray of light" meaning might be stretching it a bit - the ray of light that's seen through the animal's horn!
Meir is interesting, and is evocative of a great medieval scholar and his wife Bruria (Beruria), a great scholar in her own right. The feminine
Meira is pretty - I once came across the transliteration Mayira by googling, which produced a newborn called Mayira Levana. Cute!
Shiran is unisex.
I like it better than
Shira too, though I do like
Shira.
However, it's a bit like Iran, just as the delectable Liraz is a bit like Shiraz.
