[Opinions] Nothing wrong with Damian at all.
in reply to a message by Katie
Because it's not related to anything evil.Lucifer and Demon: Still out. Lucifer is a cool name, with a great meaning...but it's still thought to be evil. Demon is a word. WDYT of Damon?

Demon the name does not mean evil demon... it comes from Greek. I think it looks a lot nicer than Damon, which I was considering but I think the letter makes all the difference.

I know that it doesn't.However, it doesn't negate the fact that demon is a word, and a common one, in the English language that denotes an evil spirit. Would you name a child Fanny?

I actually like Fanny (nn for Frances).

Or Jerk?Sorry, I just had to throw that in. I found Jerk in the database recently, and I can't get over it. I KNOW it's a legit name, but...

Why do people get all up in arms about Damian and not Freddy, Jason, Michael, etc.? BTW, the character from "The Omen" was spelled Damien, but the name itself doesn't mean anything 'evil' at all. And Adrian was the name of Rosemary's baby, but I adore the names Rosemary and Adrian. :b

It's unusual.Freddy, Jason, Rosemary, Adrian are all common names, Damian isn't. That's why you hear complaints about Allegra being a medicine, while Daisy doesn't conjure up thoughts of Sour Cream.Bloody unfair.

I think the reason might be......that Damian *sounds* a bit like "demon", therefore it must *mean* "demon", since everybody knows that all words that sound similar necessarily have similar meanings, right? So, since Jason, Freddy, etc. don't sound like anything "evil", it follows they are not "evil" names even though they were used in horror films.

And Jezebel?I'm not arguing with you; I just had to mention one of my fave names - right up there with Judas and Damian, actually.

I guess Jezebel has gone into the language as a synonim of "whore" as in the expression "painted Jezebel". It's not actually connected to a film or anything. Isla's question was about names from horror films, rather than names with allegedly "evil" connotations in a more general context.I agree that Jezebel is very pretty, but unusable. A "Jezebel" is also the racist stereotype of the depraved black woman who entices white men, as opposed to the motherly asexual "Mammie" or "Aunt Jemima". So that's what really puts me off Jezebel, personally.
