Elisa is blonde, fair skin. Probably of Northern European descent. If in the US, she probably comes from a wealthy/cultured family and has access to a lot of resources -- private schools, travel etc.
Eliana is brunette or black-haired, fair to dark skin. She probably has Jewish ancestry. She is intelligent, literary, and driven. I've known two Elianas and both fit this description. Neither are girly and pampered as another poster said.
I like both of these names but very much prefer Eliana, since any child of mine would be darker featured. I think both are current and lovely. They are feminine, but to me not frilly.
