[Opinions] Re: Kimberly
in reply to a message by Lily
It's my name (Kimberly) and I'm kind of indifferent to it. It's not the worst name out there but it doesn't really fit into my personal naming style. I like Kimberly more than Kimberley, but I'm biased. I'd probably like it more if I was named that instead but the extra e adds orange for me that I don't really like. I go by Kim most of the time but I noticed that when my teachers and professors called me Kimberly, students in the class who didn't know me very well followed suit and called me Kimberly as well. Also when I got to college my friends started calling me both Kimberly and Kim even though I never introduced myself as Kimberly except formally. Multiple people, some of which don't even know each other, actually switch back and forth between Kim and Kimberly because they "like Kimberly better." I don't really care either way but I found that interesting. Kimmy stops with grade school friends and family (if they use it). I actually hated it for awhile in middle school. But seriously, rarely ever hear it now. One guy did freshman year of college who liked me, he actually used all three names, but no one else there has. A couple guys and a teacher called me Kimmy in high school, the guys picked it up after I noted no one called me Kimmy anymore after grade school. The teacher I didn't mind, she was sweet. I haven't met any Kimberly that has gone by her full name. At most, it's usually like me and they'll go by both Kimberly and Kim. I should note that now I'm in college, usually adults ask me which I prefer, Kimberly or Kim, and they generally stick with that.
