Isn't this actress Thandie Newton's real name? I believe her mother is from Africa and the name is used in her country. I don't mind it, but I keep wanting to pronounce '-diwe' as '-dive'.
ETA: Yes, it's her name. Her Mom is from Zimbabwe.
The name "Thandiwe" means "beloved"in Ndebele, Zulu, Xhosa or Swazi and the name "Thandie" is pronounced Tan-dee.
