Re: I Say / You Say / You Think

I say: "This is my daughter, Lavinia Eunice."
You say: That is such a neat middle name.
You think: Lavinia *shudder* poor child... Eunice is nice but not in a first name sense
I say: "This is my daughter, Antonia Linnet."
You say: Do you like the nickname Tonia?
You think: I really like Antonia shortened to Tonia but Linnet doesn't seem very feminine spelt like that, looks like a last name.
I say: "This is my daughter, Matilda Alice."
You say: Why, that is such a lovely name, I really love Waltzing Matilda.
You think: I like both names but they seem funny together... hmmm... "We'll come a Waltzing Matilda again"
I say: "This is my son, James Riley."
You say: James... nice...
You think: very blah name isn't it...
I say: "This is my daughter, Sayuri Lynn."
You say: One of my best friends had the middle name Lynn...
You think: What is the polite way to ask "how on earth do you say that again" multiple times... With a middle name like Lynn I'd think they were English-speaking not Japanese
My own business always bores me to death; I prefer other people's.
