We have a tie where we want to go! And not between two, but between three options! The tie is between Kaunas, Krakow and Manchester and unfortunately we can’t travel to all three and no more replies seem to come in, so I used a three sided dice to decide our next destination. And that destination is.. Manchester (the Peak District)!
🏰
In the heart of England lies the Peak District, a place where local lore, gnarled forests and expansive moorlands create an enchantingly beautiful setting. It’s home to some of England’s most beautiful stately homes. We will be visiting one of these stately homes. Which one would you love to visit?
1) Haddon Hall
-Haddon Hall is staggeringly beautiful and The ‘Long Gallery’ and gardens are lovely. Present-day Haddon Hall dates from the 12th Century to the early 17th Century. It’s the former seat of the Dukes of Rutland-
2) Peveril Castle
-Peveril Castle is mentioned in the Domesday survey and is one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses built by Henry II in 1176. It offers staggering views across the Peak District and of Mam Tor or the ‘Shivering Mountain’-
3) Hardwick Hall
-Referred to as ‘an Elizabethan masterpiece’, Hardwick Hall is filled with rich furnishings and tapestries preserved by successive generations of the Devonshire family-
4) Chatsworth
-Chatsworth, the seat of the Duke of Devonshire, has been in the Cavendish family since 1549 and set in extensive parklands and woodlands and the house contains a large collection of important paintings, furniture and other artefacts-
5) Bolsover Castle
-Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire was named the most haunted place in England by English Heritage. A little boy has been known to grab the hands of unsuspecting women, and wispy form of a young woman in a flowing grey dress puts in a regulary appearance in the garden.-
6) Kedleston Hall
-A neo-classical manor house, seat of the Curzon family, is a stunning Robert Adam-designed house with colonial history and vast parkland in Derbyshire. Kedleston Hall was designed purely for entertaining (it does not have any bedrooms) and, as such, it is lavish to the extreme with the rooms groaning with paintings, sculptures, furniture and souvenirs and gifts from when Lord Curzon was Viceroy-
