The year is 2002. Auguste and Madge are still immensely enjoying their retirement, and were elated to meet their new great-grandson, as well as taking more frequent trips to France so that they could visit Jane, Frédéric, and their children. However, it has not gone unnoticed that Auguste's health is beginning to decline. Joy and Todd just welcomed their son, while Joy is finishing her masters degree, and Todd is in school to become a veterinarian. Nate is currently in college on the east coast, where he met his girlfriend in one of his engineering classes. Jane and Frédéric had another daughter, and decided that their house was just too small to fit their growing family, and decided to move to the other side of town, where they opened up a second location of their bakery, which is becoming one of the most successful in the city. Julia had started having some health problems, and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1997. After being married for two years, Lionel and Julia realized that they wanted to have a kid, however since Julia was high risk (over the age of 35 and with an autoimmune disease), they opted for adoption and ending up adopting a two year old from Haiti. August and Carly-Jane had a lovely wedding at the beach, and have since had a daughter and a son.
