The Victorian era was a period in British history running from 1837 to 1901. This generational CAF will follow one family in Victorian (London, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Bristol) throughout this era. You may give each member of the family as many or as few middle names as you like.Charles Thornton is a somewhat self-important but very talented blacksmith and farrier (maker of horseshoes) living in Bristol. In 1826, at the age of 22, he meets 20-year-old Edwina White, a physician's daughter, and they fall in love quickly. The two are fairly well-off and get married in 1827. The two purchase a modest yet beautiful home in the city. During the day, Edwina mends clothing items for a small fee and attends teas in the afternoon with several good friends of hers. Only a year after their marriage, Edwina gives birth to a beautiful baby boy with curly brown hair.DH (1804): Charles Malcolm Thornton
DW (1805): Edwina Margaret Diana Thornton (née White)DS1 (1828): James Phillip Darius Thornton
A year after James' birth, Edwina finds out she is pregnant once again. In the spring of 1830, Charles and Edwina welcome Alexander, their second son. Alec is such a happy, easy baby, and both parents are thrilled. Shortly after his birth, Edwina's mother falls ill and passes away. The family mourns - Edwina was especially fond of her mother and misses her dearly. Edwina's father is also grieved and moves to Bristol to be nearer to his daughter, Edwina, his only surviving child. He becomes a household presence and a wonderful grandfather to James and Alec.DS2 (1830): Alexander Washington Clovis Thornton "Alec"
Over the next few years, Edwina gives birth to another healthy baby, a girl. They name her Mary. The family is thrilled - they feel complete with so many children in their home, even though money has become a little more tight as the children have aged. Edwina begins dressmaking in the family's attic to earn a little extra money, and in 1837, she becomes pregnant again, this time with twins. The birth process is arduous, but Edwina eventually gives birth to two small babies, a boy and a girl. Edwina never fully recovers from the birth and passes away three months later. The family is devastated and ten-year-old James leaves school to begin peddling newspapers on the street.
