Iceland has unusual naming conventions, and I thought I'd try making a game out of them. Icelandic names typically consist of a given name and a patronymic. So Jon, son of Einar, will be named Jon Einarsson. Jon's son Magnus will be Magnus Jonsson. Jon's daughter Lilja will be Lilja Jonsdottir. Very recently, Iceland's laws were changed to account for non-binary individuals, so Jon's non-binary child Blaer would be Blaer Jonnsbur. Sometimes people prefer to use a matronymic; Helga's son Karl will be Karl Helgusson. Sometimes people have both a patronymic and a matronymic. [A few people have surnames, but they are limited by law to an approved few.]

I don't speak Icelandic, so I don't know the grammatical reasons Helga's son is Helgusson instead of Helgasson. I propose for this game that we don't worry too much about it, and just stick -son, -dottir, and -bur on the ends of names as appropriate.
