Unfortunately, Queen Eleanor's prediction came true - she birthed no more children, because her husband died that year, of the same pneumonia that had stolen her eldest son such a long time ago. Not only that, but Philip and Alexander succumbed to the disease too. The Dowager Queen retreated to her residence in Scotland and separated herself from the affairs of state. She was at least happy in the knowledge that her eldest son, the new King William, had at last found a match - not a good one, Kitty had only been a Viscountess, but at least they were in love. That was something the Dowager Queen, in mourning for her dear lost husband and her poor children, could well appreciate. Little Princess Meg was engaged, too - to the new Queen's brother. It would have been amusing if the family weren't so worn down.
