YEAR FOUR: The Hermanson clan goes on a three week vacation to Copenhagen in the summer! Roy and Laci went to Copenhagen for their honeymoon, and now they're excited to go back with their little girls.
YEAR FIVE: Laci has to travel to travel to Los Angeles in order to give a speech at a business convention, leaving Roy to take care of the girls back home in Madison, WI. Luckily for Roy, he has his older sister, Lizzy, to come help him when he needs it.
YEAR SIX: As Roy was jogging through the park, he hears some hussed moans in the bushes. When he goes to investigate the noise, he finds a small rattled box with a small kitten inside. The kitten looked skinny and dingy and it appeared that it's paw was hurt. Rpy then wraps it in the sweatshirt and takes to a nearby vet. Bandaged and fixed up, Roy decided to take it home to surprise the girls. Laci, being a sucker for cats, squeals in joy when she meets the kitten. They family agrees on naming the kitten, which turns out to be a Chartreux, Toby.
YEAR SEVEN: After spending two years on getting pregnant, Roy and Laci decides on adopting again. At the same time, the couple finds out that Laci's teenage cousin, Jaylyn, is pregnant and planning oon giving it up for adoption, the couple leaps at the chance of arranging an adoption with her. After nine long months, Jaylyn gives birth to a healthy baby girl. They name the baby Abigail Dorothy.

YEAR EIGHT: As a Xmas gift for Gilly and Scarlet, the couple gets the girls a border collie pup since Laci basically kept Toby for herself. Overjoyed at the sight of their new pet, they name her Andie.
YEAR NINE: One sunday morning while enjoying her coffee, Laci is shocked to find a sheep in their backyard. The next door neighbors inform her that sheep most likely belongs to the farm from the town next to theirs. Laci calls the man who owns the farm to let him know of their runaway sheep. In a strange turn of events, the man sells the sheep to Laci, and now the Hermansons have a sheep. They name her Edie.
YEAR TEN: On the surface, it seems that Roy and Laci have a perfect marriage and family. However, in the past year, the couple have been growing apart to the point of not coversating for days. The success of Laci's business has made her extremely busy, causing her to drift way from her husband while pulling a happy face in front of the kids. The marriage finally comes to a breaking point when Laci, while away on another trips, has an affair with her college sweetheart, Oz. Despite being extremely devastated by his wife's betrayal, Roy agrees that they have been drifting apart and their romantic love for each other has faded away.
Subsequently, the couple amicably separates and later divorced. As an agreement, Roy keeps the Gillian and Scarlet in their Madison home during the school year, with Laci spending time with them during spring, summer and winter breaks. Laci keeps Abigail year around; she also moves to Los Angeles and starts dating Oz officially.
YEAR ELEVEN: With Laci taking Toby with her to LA and being forced to give away Edie after the divorce, Roy cheers up the girls by getting them a put mouse. While Scarlet doesn't receive the mouse too well, Gillian instantly falls in love it and names him Charlie.
YEAR TWELVE: Due to extreme budget cuts, the company that Roy works for decides to let him go. After taking freelancing jobs for two months, Roy accepts an offer to teach computer science at a local community college.
Despite dating for year, Laci and Oz (full name is Osborne Rayner Switzer) has a long history back in their college days and decided to tie the knot. Not wanting to make a huge fuss, the pair gets married a courthouse and goes to Peru for their honeymoon. While utterly surpised by their sudden hitching, Roy is nevertheless happy for them and wishes them the best.
YEAR THIRTEEN: Roy and the girls hosts a German foreign exchange student named Regine Gerver. During Regine's stay, she introduces the family to her culture and her own family's traditions. She even becomes the very best friends with Gillian. When her time is up, Regine and the sister promises each other to email each every day, which they do for many years to come.
YEAR FOURTEEN: For the summer, the girls decides to volunteer at the local library while staying with their mother and stepfather in Los Angeles. While there, the girls befriend the other volunteers and the their favorite librarian, Mr. Rimmer. Scarlet also develops a love for organization.
YEAR FIFTHTEEN: Roy and the girls are stuck in the house during a snow storm and are not able to visit the Roy's parents for Thanksgiving. However, they try to not let that get them down and have have some fun themselves by making snacks, watching a marathon of movies and going sledding. Roy even gives the girls a guitar lesson.
In LA, Laci and Oz decides to get a another pet and something very exciting; a kingssnake. They name him Ace.
YEAR SIXTEEN: Leaving the girls home alone for the first time (with checks from Aunt Lizzy), Roy goes to his hometown of Winslow, AR, to attend a weeding of a childhood friend, Jeff. At the wedding, Jeff introduces Roy to his favorite cousin, Anna, who teaches junior high. They instantly hit it off.
Laci decides to transfer the headquarter of her business to San Francisco.
YEAR SEVENTEEN: At a fancy award ceremony and dinner, Laci and Winnie accepts a prestigious award for their success and leadership in business.
Scarlet travels to UCLA - her first trip away from home alone - to attend a Model UN conference. There, she meets Ronnie, a high school student from Northridge, who she takes a liking two and promises to contact either when they got home.
YEAR EIGHTEEN: Due to his success teaching at the community college, Roy is offered a teaching position at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and he gladly accepts.
In June, Gillian graduates high school as valedictorian. With the approval of her parents, Gillian decides to go off broad for a year in Germany before attending Columbia.
YEAR NINETEEN: After dating for three years, Roy marries his girlfriend, Anna Justine Lynton. After having the wedding at Martha's Vineyard, they take a trip to the Bahamas.
Scarlet leaves for home to attend Syracuse University
YEAR TWENTY: After 8 years of marriage, Laci files for divorce after finding Oz in bed with another woman. Devastated over the breakdown of her marriage, Laci sells their San Francisco home and, with her daughter Abbie, they move to her hometown in Eugene, WA to live with her mother, Elyse. After a few months, Laci begins to feel better about herself and decides to focus on herself for awhile.
Anna gets a promotion at the junior high teaches, becoming the assistance principal.
