Matt and Riley have been dating for the past six years and were married last April, just before Matt started his residency at a small community hospital. After they got married, Matt and Riley began the process of international adoption. They knew that it could take a long time to be approved to adopt a child, but they also knew that they definitely wanted to adopt kids. They were surprised when, six months after they turned in their application, they got a call from an agency in Peru asking if they'd be willing to adopt two siblings from that country. They agreed to adopt Jonatan and Anabel, both of whom have Down Syndrome. Jonatan and Anabel have just arrived in the US and, although they only speak Spanish, are quickly picking up their daily routines.

Matt and Riley have spent a year helping Jonatan and Anabel adjust to life in the United States. This year, they took the kids on a family vacation to the beach! Because they lived in the mountains of Peru, neither Jonatan nor Anabel had even seen the beach before. Jonatan loved the water and sand and spent his days swimming with Matt and building sand castles. Anabel didn't like the sand, and the kiddie pool at the hotel was more than enough water for her. Still, she developed a love of ice cream, frozen custard, and slushies and still begs for the sweet treats often.

Riley was relieved when Matt told her he'd gotten a full time position as an ER doctor, because she had just discovered she was pregnant again. When she went for an ultrasound, she was shocked to discover that she was carrying triplets! She and Matt walked around in a daze for a few weeks until the news sunk in. Then, they began preparing. They have long had the duplex to themselves, but shuffled bedrooms around a bit to make room for the new arrivals. Ezra, Adam, and Hannah were born at 34 weeks, 5 days and each had short NICU stays. Against the odds, all the babies are healthy and doctors don't think they'll have any developmental delays.

1
