The Prompt
During the past two years, the threats of war which had brewed earlier proved nothing, as neither side took to overt aggression just yet. While both lands simmered in this endless game of waiting, life goes on, and the royal couple welcomes a pair of twin children into this strange limbo of neither peace nor war. How are the people taking this delicate political state? What steps are the Monarch and Consort taking in case a real, open war erupts? And what are they planning to do to protect their brood of young children should the dreaded come to pass?

I've noticed a few people reading my story over my shoulder and such saying Xavia as ZAY-vee-ah and I've been pronouncing it ZAH-vee-ah. It didn't really cross my mind that Xavia is a first name pronounced the way they're saying it. It wouldn't matter except Anastasya Xavia only sounds okay (to me) with my pronunciation. Idk.
"Finlo, come here! What do you think?" Crispyn called as the handservant passed by the doorway. He struck a pose in his cream colored suit and smiled.
"Quite sophisticated, Your Highness," Finlo replied. "And your mother will like it as well."
"Will my father?" Crispyn asked.
"Your father will be happy to see you out of play clothes," Finlo said with a smirk.
"Very true." Crispyn turned to the tailor who was fussing with an emerald satin trim on his sleeve and cocked his head. "You promise Vyvienne and Sylviu are wearing these colours too?"
"I swear to it,” the tailor replied. “And your parents as well. You will all look quite dashing.”
“Ah, so sure of yourself?” Crispyn teased, but the tailor wasn’t worried. Crispyn was smiling and had a mischievous glint in his eye. “All in jest,” he quickly assured anyway. “But be quick and get me out of this nonsense. I am missing time with Osvald.”
“I’m right here,” his hand servant laughed. “I’m not going out without you."
Osvald was fairly new at his job, had been at the position only about a year, but he and Crispyn had become fast friends.
"It's because you're the only boy close to his age he can play with," Adalyn insisted.
"Well, I have you and four brothers and he and I are still very close," Ciprian had argued, motioning to Finlo. "It's important to be close to your handservants. You spend much of your time with them and must be able to trust them with your life."

Before the messenger returned to Keenor, Airdan met with the kings of Talseine and Navarre to discuss the possibility of war. The other kings agreed that the northern cities were likely overreacting and that the scouts were not a threat. Nevertheless, all three cities have started making a small amount of military preparations. Although they don't believe the vampires are currently a threat, they do believe that it is better to be prepared in case something happens.
The people of Ayen see these preparations in mostly the same way as Airdan does: as a necessary precaution more in case of anything happening than in case of a specific event.
It is not long until the Ayen royal family finds out that Soora is once again expecting twins. Even after having no complications with Efren, having twins is extremely worrying. Luckily, nothing goes wrong this time either.
Soon after Ári and Alaia are born another messenger arrives from Keenor. The vampires are still there. It's been more than eight times longer than the last time they came. They are still showing no sign of attacking but are increasing in number. Although they are seemingly peaceful the fact that more of them are coming over the mountains makes the situation seem more serious. Airdan still does not fully believe that war will come any time soon, but has accepted it as a realistic possibility. More military preparations have begun and new guards have been hired for the palace and the city gates.
The people are slightly less convinced than their king is. They are agitated by the preparations, partially afraid even though they don't think anything is going to happen and partially confused as to why the king is so worried. Most of them go along with the preparations, however, which makes the process easier.

Others go into diplomacy; Ibûn thought it handy to have some eloquent young people who know how to communicate well. The mountain is also preparing to be more self-sufficient, providing a real boost of scientists and craftsmen and -women. At the same time Farin and Ibûn are trying not to seem too hostile to the other kingdom; they even considered getting their new surrogate mother from there, but then a young lady who has been banned from a far-away kingdom for being pregnant out of wedlock enters the mountain. They decide to host her, as she's no money for a room of her own. When she gives birth they want to co-parent; the mother, Vígdís, now lives in the royal quarters with them. She's exceptionally bright and used to sit at the military strategy table with her father, who was top army commander in her kingdom, so she helps the kings take precautions for the war. New chambers are built, deep into the mountain, behind the royal quarters, with tunnels connecting to Dale in case they need to flee there. For now, they keep the rebellious little Tyr in there to hide him from the citizens.

Meanwhile, due to the pressure of the situation and not wanting to be left in a succession crisis, the crown and council have at last agreed to name Theodora Crown Princess and heir to the throne.

Seems like Nicolas was fast enough to prevent war from happening. It's been a worrying time though, as it's not exactly peace either. But for now, the royal couple and the people of Gretalia are enjoying the last couple days of summer.
After giving birth to the crown prince, Katerina wasn't sure she wanted more children. They had a girl and a boy - and more importantly - a crown prince. Just after Leonardo's first birthday, Katerina unexpectedly found out she was pregnant again. She had mixed feelings, but Nicolas was very calm about it, and also very happy to welcome another bundle of joy. At the first ultrasound, they were told that it wasn't a bundle of joy. It was two. Katerina panicked, but soon accepted it.
As soon as it was known to the public, the people of Gretalia started betting on the babies genders, and their names. The royal couple even had a public poll where everyone could vote for the names! Sooner or later, Princess Eirene and Prince Erasmos were born. Nicolas and Katerina decided to use Ariadne and Ari as middle names, as they were the winning names in the pubic poll. For Eirene, they also used Flavia since the baby was born with a lot of blonde hair. Sofia is a name they both loved. For Erasmos they decided to use George to honor one of Nicolas's childhood friends, and also Callistus because, well...Nicolas couldn't help himself.

It seemed like a exeggarative plan at that time, but you'll better be safe than sorry once the attack comes, right? As far as the folk was concerned, the Bernadotte family had an extremly strong support and even after the years of ongoing threats there were very few that supported the Ribbing family's efforts.

Michele finds this exceedingly tiresome, but he is resolved not to strike the first blow of what could possibly be a very expensive and time-consuming war. So instead he plays his cards close to his chest, sending spies into Tellino at irregular intervals and keeping tabs on the pulse of their city.
Perotto, now a bright lad ten years of age, shows less interest in his studies than his younger siblings, and prefers to play wild games outside, climbing walls, drawing chalk sketches on roofs, and stealing fruits from the kitchen. One day, his Uncle Vico noticed the boy's agile, mischievous energy and proposed an idea to Michele: he would take Perotto under his wing to train, not as a mercenary, but rather as a half-soldier, half-spy, who can talk his way out of situations his sword cannot extricate him from. Perotto is exhilarated at the idea, and Michele gives his consent.
Not long after, Caterina--who had herself been bed-ridden again by another difficult pregnancy--gave birth to a pair of twins, Lucrezia and Ferrante. While Lucrezia is a wailing, kicking baby from her very first moments, Ferrante is silent and weak, and the midwife nearly mistook him for a stillborn son until she saw his faint gasps for air. The physicians all cautioned Caterina against having more children, citing the two difficult pregnancies she has had.
