It took quite some time for Erik and Reg to acclimatise to not only being parents, but being parents to children who have a heartbreakingly fond memory of their late mother and a warily distanced one of their father. But in time, the four of them grew their bonds of attachment to each other, and day by day the Summers became an increasingly cohesive family unit.
Then, one day, a surprise. One of Erik's friends from his university days dropped by in town from London, and they caught up with each other over a few visits. As it turned out, Colin had found himself a steady job as a journalist for a paper based in London, and he happened to know that they were looking for a columnist. Then, as he proceeded towards his latest assignment to cover some news in town, he thought of Erik and decided to persuade him to take up the offer. This was a bit of a surprise, for while Erik had taken up politics with a passion, he had until then never considered being a columnist; more than that, the idea of their moving to London for the job was an unexpected but intriguing prospect for Reg, who had always loved the city and wanted to live there since she went there for uni. They discussed the idea together, then with the children; within the next month, they received news that Erik had gotten the job, and they bought a smallish house in London.
They had moved in to their home for scarcely three months when Reg woke up sick, to the children's agitation and Erik's surprise. His suspicions were proved true when, not long afterwards, it was discovered that Reg was, in fact, pregnant! The couple had been trying to conceive for almost half a year with no luck, and just as they started to think one of them was infertile, Reg got pregnant with a daughter. After some discussion, they agreed to name her after Lisbeth, Aaron and Ana's mother, but not in her first name, because the children decided it would feel too odd for them. And thus, the baby girl was christened Alexandra Elizabeth - Sandra, as Ana took to calling her as soon as the name was decided upon.

Wil and Toni were married for two years before they adopted Henry and Amy Scott. Toni and her first husband belonged to a cancer support group (pancreatic cancer is what killed him). While in the group, Toni made friends with a lot of the other people and has remained in contact with them over the past few years. When she heard that Nina Scott's brain cancer had returned, she and Wil reached out to her and tried to provide anything they could for the single mother and her family. Six months ago, Nina took a turn for the worse and her two kids stayed with Wil and Toni while Nina was admitted to the hospital to undergo treatment. Ultimately, the treatment failed. Nina had already talked to Wil and Toni about taking in her kids, should the need ever arise, and two weeks ago, Wil and Toni finalized Henry and Amy's adoption. The two kids have been really traumatized by their mother's illness and subsequent death, but they are working through things in therapy, and having a stable house to go home to is helping too.

When Danny's ex girlfriend Bailey Morgan showed up with her two year old sun Luke Adam and claimed he was Danny's, the Nicholases were shocked. Danny and Bailey had broken up just over four years prior to the point and at the time of the supposed conception, Danny and Ariel had just gotten together. Worse than that, Bailey was attempting to take Danny to court for child support. Eventually, when the smoke cleared, it was revealed that Bailey had just come after Danny for his money. Ariel and Danny were stronger for the experience, but truly felt for the little boy who would have to grow up with that mother.
After the whole mess with Bailey and Luke was cleared up, Ariel found herself somewhat unexpectedly pregnant. It was a happy surprise, the couple had planned on waiting another year or two before actually trying, but they were still very excited. Sofia Abigail was born a few months later with big blue eyes and wispy blonde hair. The hair and eye color were a surprise since both Danny and Ariel are brunettes with amber and green eyes respectively. Ariel thinks that Sofia's hair and eyes will darken as she gets older.
