Estate Congrats Second Sign-up and Organization Round
We need more players if this game is going to be worth playing, so I'm posting the sign-up information here again as well as a link to the first sign-up round. If you've already signed up, here is where you can communicate with the other players in your Rank and get relationships and things worked out. Children and Relatives, this especially applies to you: all the Children need to decide on names and other info for their parents (who are alive), and on their dynamic with the Relatives. Relationships can be established with other Ranks too, just make sure you put any player whose couple you mention in the subject line with ATTN: in front of it.
So, here's the link:

And here's the sign-up information again. As of now we have three Children, one Relative, no Tenants, and one Staff:
This congrats is inspired by the show Downton Abbey, a new favorite of mine. It will run similarly to my kingdom congrats, where there will be an overarching story and all the families will be connected. But instead of it being an entire kingdom, this congrats will revolve around one single estate, including the family that owns it, relatives who live on or very near the estate, tenants who rent land on the estate, and the servants and employees who make sure the estate run properly.
In a departure from my usual M.O. with these games, the first sign-up does NOT determine setting and language. I will provide that, and the first sign-up will be the heir to the estate (male or female, whichever you think will make for a more interesting game) and give the family a surname. The family will consist of living parents and grown children, with the parents not being played but being mentioned. The categories will be:
Child: the children of the owners of the estate. All have recently gotten married.
Relative: cousins, nieces or nephews, younger siblings, etc...any type of relation, dependent on the owners in some way. Live somewhere on the estate or near enough to be constant visitors and involved in its affairs.
Tenant: renter, rents land from owners for farming or general living.
Staff: housekeeper, butler, maids, valets, grooms, cooks, footmen, drivers, gardeners, etc. Anyone who works on the estate for the family.
Make sure you specify position when you sign up, and be exact: i.e. Relative (cousin) rather than Relative or Staff (kitchen maid) rather than Staff.
I'll provide a running story of the family, and you can write and tell how your family fits into it. In your sign-up, tell us about your family: how they live, what they do, what their place in the estate is. Read other posts and establish connections with other players. Please place what rank you are signing up as in the subject line; i.e. (ATTN: STAFF) so they can include you if they wish. The more everyone interacts with their stories, the more fun they are!
So, enough of the mechanics; our estate is:
Barrington Park. A venerable old manor, recalling the grandeur of the old English estates, nestled right along the shores of New England. Built up since colonial times, the estate has passed from one generation to the next of "American aristocrats," wealthy, powerful, and respected people. It is vast, encompassing thousands upon thousands of acres, seemingly more suited to the English countryside than that of Connecticut. It has always been a place of gentility and tradition. But now, in 1914, with Europe on the brink of disaster the modern world is fast approaching, and Barrington must decide to embrace it or reject it.
There will be name rules each round; this round is free-choice as long as it makes sense for the era. Same-sex couples are allowed as long as you explain how they keep it discreet, though the sign-up says DH and DW. Higher-ups (Relative and above) must marry, though they can have mistresses and lovers of the same sex.

DH: (20) Thomas William Ashby
DW: (18) Ottoline Bethany (Canters) Ashby "Otto"
Rank: Relative (Nephew/cousin and Neice/cousin)
(So, he's the heir's first cousin but the parents' nephew, so the dad's brother's son and his wife.)
Thomas and Otto have been in love for about four years now and have finally decided to get married.
Can't think of anything else at the moment, I'll edit if I do.

Yep!
Your rank will be Relative, so that's where you'll look for your family. And don't worry, you don't have to have seen Downton Abbey to get this game :)

ATTN: Ashby family members
This seems like a good time to sort out family matters/history.
Any suggestions for the parents, and the type of relationship people have with them, and each other?
As a background, Jonathan is a little useless in most business matters, and seems far too inexperienced to manage the family money. He is learning as he goes, and believes that family is very important. On the outside, Edith seems like a rather stern, stubborn woman, but would likely simply be stressed by the recent upheaval. She is well-meaning, if a little shy to begin with.

I have a question! I already have a family ongoing in this game, but I was wondering if I could take a second? If the emphasis is going to be an ongoing story, it'll be fun.
Thanks!
Thanks!
