Nyx' NTNB in the year 2101 - Round 1
This is a typical NTNB, except that the year is 2101 and the trends are slightly different. Below is an example of 2101 trends in baby names to help out with each family.
In general, parents are finally fed up with the unique-word-name trend. However, there are some word-names that have become so commonplace as to seem usual/typical/normal/okay. Names that were popular in the early 1900s became the standard set for the parents of this generation. The most popular names (the ones that came back early and strong) from the 1900's are currently the least trendy. However, the names that had a slower buildup or just didn't see as much use are still considered fair game. Names that were popular in the 1940's/1950's/1960's are the current favorites and one of the most popular trends. Other current trends include unique nicknames as first names, unusual occupational names, and a return to names from or about medieval times. Finally, the most obnoxious trend (to many name-lovers at least) is giving girls names that were popular boys names in the 1940's/1950's/1960's.
The Jones Family
DH: Durward Elden Jones
DW: "Emmy" Emblem Eloise (née Labelle) Jones
DD: _____ "E*"____ _____ Jones
Emmy HATES her name! She would have rather been the plain-Jane name of Emily to the creative-word-name of Emblem. Durward, on the other hand, likes his name just fine. Because Emmy has the stronger opinion (and is dealing with pregnancy hormones!), Durward is letting her have final say on their DD's FN. Emmy has decided that she would like to find a name that was popular in the 1940's, but has seen some occasional use since that time and is a recognizable name. Durward likes that both he and Emmy have "E" MNs, and desperately wants to create a family tradition of it. Emmy has agreed, and has even decided to let Durward pick it out. Durward typically likes names that he's seen on his peers (names that are the standard set for the parents generation). Finally, Emmy wants to give their daughter a second MN that fits one of the current popularity trends (but NOT a masculine name).
The Davis Family
DH: "Cord" Corduroy Hoyt Davis
DW: Rosalina Mollie (née O'Reilly) Davis
DS: _____ _____ Davis
Cord and Rosalina would like to embrace any of the currently popular trends for their son's FN/MN (especially the nickname or occupational name or medieval name), but they just aren't quite sure what they love most. Help them pick out the perfect name for their DS.
The Lobo Family
DH: Otis Steven Lobo
DW: Heather-Hadley Merche Maradona-Lobo
DS/DD: _____ _____ Maradona-Lobo / _____ _____ Maradona-Lobo
Heather-Hadley is used to double-barrelled names, so when she married she kept her maiden name and hyphenated it to her last name. She's insisted that their children also get the double-barrelled surname, and Otis only agreed after Heather-Hadley agreed that they wouldn't use any double-barrelled FNs.
Heather-Hadley would like their DS's FN to be a nickname that was popular in the 1950's/1960's, and their DD's FN to be a name (not nickname) that was a popular boys name in the 1950's/1960's. Otis is picking out MNs that, while popular in the 1940's/1950's/1960's, are pretty timeless and classic nonetheless... and are masculine for their DS and feminine for the DD.
