Old Country: Galway, Ireland
New Country: Boston, USA1850 -- Nearly two more years passed, each day bringing more and more immigrants into America. Patrick was lucky not only to hang onto his job, but to receive a promotion as well. Due to his hard work and productivity, he was made a foreman at the steel mill. The accompanying wage increase allowed him to move his family out of his brother's house and into a home of their own in neighboring Charlestown. Margaret was sad to leave her sister-in-law Clara, with whom she'd become very close, but she was also excited for the new start. It wasn't long afterward that Margaret discovered that she was expecting another child. She and Patrick were looking forward to being parents again, of course, but despite Patrick's promotion money was still somewhat tight, and it would only get tighter when the newest Kelly arrived. Luckily, Margaret was able to find part-time sewing work for some of the wealthy ladies in Boston, and this added much-needed income to the household.Patrick and Margaret welcomed a son on the fourth anniversary of their arrival in America. To celebrate not only this milestone but also the life they'd left behind in Ireland, they named him James Éamonn, after Patrick's father Séamus and a brother who'd died young.
