Sinistra's laid-back multi-fam NTNB [2] ~ everyone welcome! :D
Sinistra's Name The New Baby #2 Hi :D Sorry to bust in like this. I've been hanging around for a while, and while I'm not sure I grasp all the rules of these games, I thought I might make one. You don't have to sign up for this - while this will be several rounds, you can reply to any round you want. If you choose to reply sporadically - rounds 1, 5, 8, 9 for example - to play every round or to only play one, to join now or later, it's really up to you. I will, of course, choose my favourite name suggestions for each round as usual in NTNB games, but this isn't really a competition in the strictest sense. Call this a lazy, casual one :DI'll try and get up a new round every few days, but as I'm a little busy for the next few weeks, I guess rounds will happen when they happen. There are four families below, each with their own rules. Rules may change from round to round, but not massively, so there won't be huge paragraphs each time. You do not have to do each family if you don't want to, and you are not obliged to sign up or do each round.Hope you enjoy and I did this right! :)- Sinistra Thank you to everyone who took part last round! All of your suggestions were so great and there were some seriously awesome ones from everyone. It took some good agonising over which names to pick. I hope you all enjoy this round too! Kudos to everyone who took part last round and wow on the amazing names - and hello to anyone who wants to take part this round! :D The Kopitar family
DH : Aleksander Erazem Kopitar [30]
DW : Zarja Martina Kopitar ((Saksida)) [29]DD: Lara Katarina Kopitar [6]
DS: Luka Timotej Kopitar [4]
DD: Vita Margaret Kopitar [2] (molly)
DD: [expecting]It's been two years since their last birth. The Kopitar family decided to name their daughter Vita Margaret. This fitted nicely with their four-letter name theme they'd established, and was sufficiently different enough to keep Zarja happy. Aleksander lamented the loss of the 'L' theme, but they both agreed on an English middle name they liked - Margaret - which meant that they were both happy with the name. They've also found that Vita's name was very popular among their British friends when they announced it, and they're often complimented on her name. Zarja is pregnant once more. The couple are even more torn about names than before. Between Lara, Luka and Vita, people are starting to comment on the four-letter first name theme and it feels a little transparent. They like it, but are wondering if it's contrived? Maybe, Zarja feels, it's time for a longer name. A little like before, they'd like a mix of Slovenian but also non-Slovenian, preferably English or British names, and are conflicted - they feel the name should either fit the four-letter first name trend, or be a rather long name. They would like the first name to be Slovenian, or known in Slovenia, and the middle name either to be Slovenian or British. They would like one or both names to begin with a vowel (and V and L beginning names are not on the cards), and if the first name is short they would like a longer middle name. Zarja has started work in a museum, and thinks it would be good to have a longer, Slovenian first name with a four letter multicultural nickname, and a middle name related to English art, culture, monarchy, geography or history. Aleksander likes the four-letter first name theme, but is more open minded and likes unusual names more than he did before. Zarja has already suggested Anamarija Genovefa with the nickname "Mari" but Aleksander thinks it's a little too eclectic.[Slovenian names can be found at http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/100sl2005.php or the official stats site here http://www.stat.si/eng/imena.asp. A good list can also be found in BtN's database, of course, or even easily elsewhere online.]The Day family
DH: Bertram Rasmus Day "Bertie" [27]
DW: Lily Acantha Phaedra ((Endicott)) Day [25]DS: Castor James Day "Casey" [2] (Edith Therese)
DS/DS/DD: [nb]Can it really have been two years for the Day family? It seems like barely a day has passed, pun intended, lamely. In the end, Bertie and Lily had a very tough choice deciding on a name - Castor, Jason, Aeson, Evander, even Josiah and Orion. Bertie, who had considered himself cursed with the name Bertram, had never thought that there were so many interesting names out there. They debated for hours on end before deciding on Castor James. Neither had heard of the name being used, but agreed it had a certain unusual charm. The meaning "to shine, to excel" cemented it in their minds, and the name James was chosen for its classical elegance and the fact it's hardly the kind of name that goes out of fashion. Upon Castor's birth, they stumbled upon the nickname "Casey", which seemed so wholesome and adorable they couldn't resist. They reckon he can always go by Cas if he hates it as an adult, or even Jim, but they can't see why he would.Bertie, Lily and Casey have spent a happy two years together. While they know that it isn't to everyone's taste, Castor often gets told indulgently how unusual and indeed handsome his name is. Interestingly, Bertie has almost completely flipped his naming approach. While he remembers wishing that he was a John, James, Samuel or Thomas as a kid, he knows that Casey will be one of the few people named Castor around, and thinks that the fact that name is unusual and striking works more in his favour. In any case, the fact that Lily fell pregnant with triplets is a shock to the whole family. As with many families, they have a slight history of twins, but triplets are almost unheard of. It's made even more alarming by the fact that the doctors are extremely concerned about the condition of Lily and her children. They warn the couple that it's likely that there will be complications and that there is even a possibility that one or more babies won't survive. Indeed, Lily has a foul time during her pregnancy, puts on a brave face and wonders why she wanted children. She spends a lot of time in hospital being checked on, and is rushed in early. All is well, though! Lily and her three children are fine. While the children need to be cared for in the hospital for a while, and the youngest daughter seems to be dangerously weak, all four people bounce back and the family is overwhelmed with joy and parental terror. Three new babies and a toddler! How will they cope? All of this means that they never really thought of what to call the babies. Currently they're called Alien, Splodge and Bean after their scan images, but while they're cute nicknames, they can't possibly stick. Bertie is pushing, unusually for him, for names from Greek mythology, Roman mythology or even Middle Eastern mythology, and names from Astronomy, from stars, planets and constellations. Lily is gobsmacked and seconds all of this. Bertie, of course, would like an elegant, classical middle name if nothing else, that a child can fall back on if they grow to hate their first name like he did, but he's really become a fan of the interesting mythological and astronomy names. Lily would like her children to have unusual but nice nicknames, but wouldn't be object to calling them Alien, Splodge and Bean as long as their real names are decent. She's also glad to have a daughter if there're four men in their house, and would like her as of now only daughter to have something heavy on the pretty, the interest and the drop-dead-wow factor.[It is worth checking out mythological names and planets/stars etc on wikipedia! ;P] The Janvier family
DH: Dorian Christophe Janvier [28]
DW: Isra ((Amjad)) Janvier [29]DD/DS: Amina Clementine Ivette / William Tierry Aziz [2] (Tisiphone)
DS: [nb]Say hello to Amina and William! Two years down the line, Isra and Dorian are still happy with their naming plan. Even their least multilingual respective relatives know how to say their children's names, and Isra is particularly proud out Amina's name and the Aziz in William's. All in all, it's been a success.Compared to the others, Isra has a happy pregnancy. In fact, it's so hitch-sickness-pain-drama-worry free and Mr Baby is so healthy, they think it's worth reflecting in their child's name. Mr Baby Janvier as he's known turns up a few days late, at his own speed, but only takes a few hours to be delivered, and after twins is a blessing in disguise. Isra and Dorian decide that they will work together on this name. They would still like two middle names, still drawing from Arabic, English, Spanish and French (choose three choices. If two ethnicity groups overlap in one name, you should choose the remaining. For example French First Name, English Middle, Arabic Middle or English First, French/Spanish Middle, Arabic Middle. Just checking I'm not being confusing ;P). They would also like one name to link to the ideas of joy, happiness, cheerfulness, ease, comfort or blessing, giving that he's a cheerful baby and was an easy, comfortable, cheerful pregnancy. Isra had a pregnancy craving for sweet treats, like sweets, peppermints and pastries, so a nickname not related to the name but related to any sweet food is a bonus. The Reid family
DH: Oliver Henry Reid [38]
DW: Amelia Suzanne Overton-Reid [40]AS: [16]
AS: Edvard Theodore Reid "Eddie" [14]
AD: [11]
AS: Toma David Reid "Tommy" [10]
AD: Milly Mei-Ling Reid [5]
AD: Ekaterina Theresa Reid "Kate" or "Katya" [4] (Jessamine)
AS: [3]The Reid family is very happy. Having adopted Ekaterina, nicknamed "Katya" and occasionally "Kate", two years ago, they have seen her grow into a friendly, happy young child. Eddie and Tommy in particular have become very protective of her, often playing games with her in the garden. The garden has a pond and Eddie often catches frogs and newts from the pond to show his adopted little sisters. He wants to go into zoology when he's older, and Amelia and Oliver are proud of all their adopted children, but have high hopes for seeing Eddie go into university. The Reid family recently made an unusual move. They adopted young Amancio from an orphanage in Barcelona. Spain is not where one thinks of having children without parents, but it is pretty much universal. Oliver met young Amancio while doing rehearsals in Spain for a new play and touring the area. He found the orphanage and wanted to help, and initially Amancio was very hostile - as one of the older children in the orphanage, he was extremely protective of those he thought as his young friends and all-but-siblings. Amancio was infamous as one of the harder orphans to befriend and teased for being half feral by other children in the city, and at first he didn't trust Oliver one bit. He's barely literate and yet speaks good English, Catalan and Spanish. Oliver got to befriend Amancio and then left when his rehearsals finished for the real tour. He knew that Amancio was technically illiterate, but almost awe-worthy at art even at his young age, and so a while later sent him, out of good will, a letter, a programme from his play and a set of nice pencils to draw with. Over the last two years the cynical Amancio has befriended the family, and then decided to live with them. The Reid family, a mere two days ago, finished the complex procedure of adopting three orphans from Spain - Amancio, his biological little sister Catalina, and a three year old boy who was practically raised and cared for by the siblings, and who they consider their baby brother.Amancio and Catalina hate their names and have decided to take new names. Amelia and Oliver weren't sure about this, but the two children insisted. They are ethnically mainly Catalan and a little Basque and would like their names to reflect this. Their first names should either be Catalan or Basque, and their middle names should be English but may be Spanish or Catalan if you'd prefer. They should have nicknames which work in English. The soon-to-be-former Catalina would especially like a nickname which the younger children can say - she is especially fond of all her new siblings, being expectionally sociable, but likes her big sister role to her adopted baby brother, Tommy, Milly and Katya. It would be good if the names fitted Amancio's cynical, adult behaviour and Catalina's sisterly, warm manners. Amancio would also -love- one of his names to be related to an interesting, successful or talented artist, as he adores art. This is a priority for him and his new parents. The young three year old should retain his original Spanish name (You can decide) but have an English middle name and nickname, like the others.
