In the Kingdom of: Caranenth
The Royal House of Whitelake has ruled the Kingdom of Caranenth for generations. The law of the Kingdom states that the youngest child of the ruling royal will be the heir to the throne, while tradition states that the transition to this heir will take place after a period of no more than 30 years.
Five years ago, it was discovered that Queen Sofie, the wife of the ruling King Augustijn, could not have any more children. As it was the 25th year of Augustijn's reign, he and Sofie figured it was time to officially name their youngest, the 12-year-old Princess Adelais Katrien Lucia Victoria, as the Crown Princess. Adelais was an incredibly bright child with a surprising mind for politics as well as some military strategy. She immediately took to the news that she would rule Caranenth in 5 years' time.
That year, one other major decision was made regarding the future of the new Crown Princess and the kingdom. King Augustijn and Queen Sofie decided that it was time for Adelais to become betrothed. Knowing their daughter had a good head on her shoulders, they let her give input on who her future husband would be. Her choice was her best friend, Lord Leopold Andreas Johannes Rafael, the 15-year-old son and heir of the Duke of Orin, one of Caranenth's oldest noble houses and Whitelake's closest allies. Adelais' decision neither surprised her parents nor led them to override her. Leopold, a quiet and clever young man, had shown flashes of great leadership. It was then that the official announcement of the betrothal of the Crown Princess Adelais and her Lord Leopold was announced to Caranenth.
In the present year, King Augustijn has reached the 30th year of his reign. Adelais and Leopold, who had only grown closer since the official betrothal, were wed at the beginning of the spring. Following tradition of the kingdom, Augustijn abdicated in favor of the Crown Princess. 17-year-old Adelais became Queen of Caranenth. 20-year-old Leopold was named King, retaining his rights to inherit the additional title of Duke of Orin if his father's death should precede his own.
