"Island Survivors" Congrats (Round Two)
This is Round Two of the Island Survivors congrats game! If you want to join, new sign-ups are always welcome (you can make it so your characters have been on the beach all along or that they were elsewhere on the island and found their way to/are discovered by the other survivors). Remember, you can respond to another player's post and pair up with them or you can be assigned another "character" to pair up with if you want. Feel free to post more pictures and write with as much detail as you want. I've really enjoyed everyone's stories! :)*******It has been two months since the plane crash. The team put in charge of finding food and shelter came back with good news. They wandered the island, which turned out to be much larger than they expected, for several days. During their search they found several types of fruit trees, wild boar and turkey, as well as a few sources of fresh water. When they returned they reported that they had found some large caves further inland and plenty of material for building more permanent shelters. In light of their findings, Joel held another meeting and announced that Maya and Quan would lead everyone on the two day journey to the caves. He also assigned anyone who appeared to be physically fit to a building team. They would be in charge of building the shelters once they reached the caves. Many people objected to going. "Some of these people are injured and sick," one of the passengers argued. "Do you expect them to walk for two days and only to sleep in a wet cave?" Other people were excited about the journey and leaving the beach. "I never said this would be an easy task," Joel said in a loud voice that quieted the others. "But what options do you see we have? Anyone who says we should stay on the beach and wait for help is fooling themselves. We've been here for weeks already and it's time to stop waiting and start surviving." He glanced around at the others, waiting for someone to challenge him. When no one did he continued. "Now, Maya and Quan's team found food and water. That means our chances of survival have just doubled. The turkey and boar they brought back will last us a while, but a permanent hunting team will have to be put into place and for that we will need to be further inland." He took another look around at everyone and softened his voice. "I know everyone is scared and some are mourning the loss of their loved ones, but I believe we can make something good out of this. We don't have a choice about being on this island, so why not make it our island. When we reach the caves the first thing I will do is put our building team to work. And I will personally consult with each one of you so you can choose the location of your shelter. Everyone will be given their own space and their own home." The other passengers considered this while he spoke. "Some of the people with survival skills discovered plants, roots, and other things with medicinal properties on their search. This means Rachel can use these things to help the sick and injured. When we start building there will be a shelter specifically for medical care. And what about the children on the island? Should their education have to suffer because of the plane crash? I would like a couple volunteers who have experience with children to teach in our island school. My right hand man, Ben, and I will continue working on reaching help, but while we're on this island we're going to have to make the best of it."After Joel's speech, the passengers begin preparing themselves for the two day trip to the caves. Then the next morning they set off. It is a long and hard journey and having to help the injured and small children makes it even harder. Inside the island's dense forest it is hot and humid, not to mention filled with large insects and wild animals, so everyone is on edge and uneasy. After a sleepless night with mosquitoes sucking the life from everyone, they continue on the last leg of their journey. The caves are on the other side of a cluster of rocks and cliffs, so it takes most of the day to help everyone climb it and many people are injured in the process. When they finally reach their destination they all let out a sigh of relief and collapse on the cool floor of the cave. Their journey is over, but now comes the hard task of building shelters and feeding the large group.*******The survivors are finally off the beach, but after their hard journey through the island's dense forest and over rocks and cliffs, they are tired and some are injured. How do your survivors feel about relocating to the caves and how did they manage during the trip there? The island's leader, Joel, has delegated some of you to building teams, some to hunting teams, and others to teach children or do other small tasks. How do you feel about setting up a medical shelter, a school, and other permanent things on the island? And where do you tell the building team to put your new "home"?UN: lalalove

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"I need help, Heidi," Toni says softly trying to get to her feet.
"Honey, don't try to stand by yourself," Heidi replies getting the makeshift crutch they had fastened for Toni after she sprained her ankle during the two day trip to the caves. She hands it to her and helps her stand up.
"Thanks." Toni wanders off hobbling around. Heidi sighs as she watches her. She was glad they were able to find a better place to make shelters, but she missed the beach, she was sure Toni did too, and she wasn't sure it was worth Toni getting hurt. She shakes her head. This was crazy. If moving further inland meant a better chance of survival then of course it was worth it, Toni would heal. She just hated seeing her in pain.
The frame of their "house" was nearly finished. Heidi had asked them to build it close to Rachel's, partly because of Toni, partly because she wanted to be close enough to still help Rachel. She figured if they were probably going to be there awhile they might as well make the most of it and get all the shelters and other buildings built.
*****
Toni wanders a little bit away from the frame of what would be hers and Heidi's shelter. She leans against a tree and closes her eyes, holding back the tears like she found herself doing so often lately. Her ankle hurt but that wasn't what she was most upset about. She hated being here on the island. I wish we could have at least stayed by the beach, she thinks to herself ruefully.
She stands there for awhile, thinking about everything that had happened in the past couple months. She didn't know how long she was there. "Toni! Come on back," she hears Heidi call after awhile. "Coming," she calls back. At least she had Heidi, that would console her enough for now.
Faustina, Lara, Benny, and Francesco Agnelli + NOTE*Francesco's age is 25 and Faustina's is 34. Also, could Faustina pair up with someone? There aren't any free men. :DUN: Edith Therese
-Faustina Agnelli (34)
-Lara Agnelli (10)
-Benny Agnelli (8)
-Francesco Agnelli (25)~*~Faustina can't wait to have some more permanent things set up. This means that it will be easier for them to survive. Faustina asked the builders to set up her home on semi-level ground so Lara and Benny can at least play.
Anne MacAndrewUN: Keepskuh
-Anne MacAndrew (23)Anne made a small shelter for herself not far from the others. She still enjoys exploring the island, so she stays in the hunting team. She is glad not to help with the children, she thinks providing food is more important.
Would Anne want to pair up with someone? 'Cause I have Francesco Agnelli who would need someone.
Layla and Freddie McLeodUN: Wandering Moon
-Layla McLeod (23)
-Freddie McLeod (3)Layla didn't mind moving inland where they had a better chance for survival due to food, but Freddie didn't want to leave the beach and cried for several hours. He finally calmed down and decided to treat the forest as a playground and early the second day he hurt his ankle. Layla carried him the rest of the way and, after they stopped for a short break they approached Rachel and Layla asked her to take a look at Freddie's ankle. Fortunately, it just seems to be a sprain but she urged Freddie to stay off of it for a few days so Layla had to carry him the rest of the way.Layla has offered to help teach at the school, though she finds the idea of permanent settlements on the island ridiculous she has kept it to herself so far.She has asked for a slightly larger plot a bit away from most of the other survivors, she finds it draining to be around people all the time and likes her privacy.
"Why?""Why not?"Two pairs of eyes stared into each other intently. One pair belonged to David, who held an expression of contempt, while the other belonged to Justin, who looked almost mischievous instead. The stare was held for a few more moments, until a low murmur from Justin broke the silence."Jiiiii..."David blinked. "What?""Nothing," Justin laughed. "Nothing. Just making a sound effect. But, c'mon, Davy. If you really want to stick around with me and Oliver all the time - ""I do not!" David protested instantly at the notion of dependence. Justin ignored him and went on:" - then you better make yourself useful in one way or another. Oliver said he's going to round up the kids and keep them entertained for now, and I don't wanna sit around here doing nothing either. So get off your lazy little ar- "Justin cut himself short. At that moment, Oliver parted the bushes and pushed his face nearby the two brothers. The suddenness of his appearance and the cutting short of his brother's rant made David laugh. Oliver smiled in return."Nice to see you laughing again, David!""Hey, Oliver," Justin begun again, a bit flustered due to having to interrupt his talk before. "Good to see you. How's the school?""It's not done yet, of course. Still under construction. Which is why I'm here - you guys got any bandages?""Bandages?" David went goggle-eyed. "The doctor might have it. What for?""For construction tape, duh," Oliver rolled his eyes. The boys laughed, and he joined them laughing. Suddenly, Justin struck his elbow into Oliver's ribs."Might wanna see the doctor anyway, you know. I saw you looking at her when we were walking here.""What? No, she's busy, and I'm not hurt," Oliver was quick to reject the suggestion, which only made Justin press more."C'mon, there," he grinned from ear to ear, distinctly reminding David of the Cheshire Cat. "You like her, right?"
Rachel IsaacsUN: Aderyn Azula
-Rachel Isaacs (26)The journey across the forest was strenuous, especially in the heat. It was made even more difficult, because I had to listen to the complaints of the mildly injured, while making sure that the truly sick people were alright. It was slow going, and sometimes, I questioned Joel's wisdom. Going so far away from the water would reduce our chance of being rescued. It also keeps us from getting fish or shellfish to eat easily. However, being sheltered is a plus.I am glad to finally have a medical shelter. This way, patients will be out of the sun. And with some pregnant women around, this is very important. The herbs will also be helpful, though they won't cure serious diseases. I hope that with more permanent shelter, fewer people will have heatstroke and the sick will have a chance to get well.I'd like my new home to be close to the medical shelter, but also near homes of other survivors. There aren't so many other singles who aren't children among us, but the few that there are are all staying close, away from the couples, parents, and children. I suppose Joel hopes we'll pair off, but I can hardly think about that right now. And I don't want to have to take care of any more babies or expectant mothers, not in this climate.
Bianca & BenUN: lalalove
-Bianca Hayden (23)
-Benjamin McCarthy (25)Ben and Bianca weren't thrilled that the caves were a two day journey away because they knew it would be rough on Bianca and the baby, but they knew that it would be better than living on the beach. The journey was hard on Bianca, as she was well into the second trimester of pregnancy and didn't want to do anything to harm her baby, however Ben helped her as much as possible. Joel had asked Bianca to help teach the school, even though she didn't really have any experience, because it was the only job she could really do. Ben has noticed some of the others stuck on the island looking upon him with disdain and jealousy, especially since he's so close to Joel, he and Bianca got first selection of where they wanted their home and chose an area closer to a fresh water source and slightly larger than the other areas. Ben regrets that others aren't really fond of him, but he'll do whatever it takes to make the island a more comfortable home for Bianca and their upcoming baby.
