Note to all royal siblings
in reply to a message by britto08
We need to work out our family dynamic for the plots. This is what I've gathered from sign-ups:
Walter: oldest, ruler, focused on being the best ruler for Bial in every way. Does his duty in all ways, even in marriage. Affectionate towards sisters, sometimes locks horns with headstrong younger brother.
Magdalena: second child, intelligent and well-educated, talented in languages and music. Betrothed and un-betrothed several times in her childhood and teenage years, she marries for love but is still active in Bialan current events. Though observant at court, can be very short sighted when it comes to her family, especially her younger siblings. Family is important to her, and she adores her brothers and sister, though younger sister feels overshadowed.
Joseph: third child, raised fairly sheltered in case something should happen to Walter. Married younger than his parents would have wanted to a girl he has been long engaged to. Unclear whether he married for love or politics or both. Headstrong, sometimes butts heads with older brother.
Adelheid: youngest, talented archer and rider, feels constantly overshadowed by older sister especially, takes pride in outdoing any older sibling, proving her worth. Doesn't feel close to any siblings or even her parents. Speaks perfect French, which led to her being offered as a bride to the Dauphin of France to settle relations between them. Though her family didn't want her to marry so young, King Louis insisted and she went to France, where she was extremely disappointed in her foolish and ugly new husband but accepted him as her lot in life.
Please edit your parts here as you see fit. We also need to decide where our mother was from and what her backstory was. R.R. gave her first name as Elizabeth, so are we going with English?

Joseph + note
(We could make Joseph and Magdalena twins and bump Maria Elisabeth's age up a little bit if you feel he's is too young. I was going with ages that would have been common in the time period, though I admit I erred on the side of the 16th and 17th centuries, which I'm more familiar with than the 18th. I originally had Joseph as 20, but you posted Magdalena before I did and I felt that Joseph fit better after her. Let me know!)
Joseph is an energetic and headstrong young man. He is a prominent personality at Court, being more outgoing and less burdened by duty than his brother the King. He wears fine clothing, and dances and rides excellently. He is a very good archer, and also skilled with a sword. He has dark hair and clear gray eyes, and is a bit of heart-throb among the young ladies at Court. His marriage to Maria Elisabeth trampled on many dreams and aspirations.
Intelligent like his sister Magdalena, Joseph works hard at his studies and favors studies of Latin, mathematics, and astronomy. He is marginally fluent in similar languages to his siblings, but excels in Latin and does well enough in French, especially after Adelheid began to help him practice. He also enjoys theology, and there was some talk of him joining the clergy before his official engagement to Maria Elisabeth.
Joseph, though friendly and popular, does not allow many people to become very close to him. He is close to his mother, the Dowager Queen, and to his siblings, especially his older brother, to whom he is very loyal despite their brotherly rivalry.

Age is fine...
No need to bump it up, but if you want to you certainly can.

Nah, I'll just leave it. Thanks!
I didn't notice Elizabeth at the end of E.Tracy's post, and yes I intended for one parent to still be alive. I'm totally fine with playing with historical facts, and I really like RowenaRavenclaw's story. Sounds like poor Adelheid, like most teenage girls, is trying very hard not to be forgotten and dismissed.
As for Magdalena, she has a rebellious streak which made it important for her to go her own way and do what was good for her rather than just what was good for Bial. She was doted upon by her parents and older brother when she was born because, with such a large gap between her and her brother, they assumed they would have no more children, at least not for a while.
She and Walter have always had a close relationship despite their age difference, and the two value one another's advice and companionship. The two have always understood one another.
Magdalena was excited when Adelheid was born as she had wanted a sister and the two were friends as children, but as they grew older they grew apart. Adelheid thought Magdalena was selfish for not thinking of her duty to Bial first the way she and Walter did, while Magdalena found it hard to stop treating Adelheid like a baby. This, along with the fights typical between teenage sisters, only worsened Adelheid's feelings of rejction.
As for Joseph, he is the type who has never really let anyone be really close to him. Everyone jokes that they are so close in age he's practically Magdalena's twin, but really the two have never had the type of sibling bond that she and Walter or even she and Adelheid had as children.

NOTE(s):
1. Actually, E. Tracy mentioned the name Elizabeth as the Queen Dowager at the end of her first post (may have been added when she edited). According to her, our parents were King Wolfgang Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Kaarmann and Queen Elizabeth Sophia Louise. Obviously, the Queen's names are fairly common and universal, but if everyone agrees, then an English mother seems like a good bet. Also, I referred to her as Queen Dowager because of your sign-up, britto08, because you said, "Though Walter was hesitant about marrying [Magdalena] to nobility rather than royalty, her mother talked him into it after seeing how much her daughter loved Taddeo." This statement implies that the siblings' mother is still alive, hence Queen Dowager.
2. I hope it was alright that I had Adelheid marry the Dauphin of France; I know you wanted to play with historical facts and events, so I hope I didn't throw a wrench in any plans of yours, britto08.
Anyways, back to Adelheid. I think you’ve pretty accurately summarized what I put in my sign-up post and I like what E. Tracy has added about Walter and Adelheid being most alike (and therefore distant). I also think Adelheid was always jealous of the relationship between Walter and Magdalena and tried to be closer to Joseph, but never managed to cultivate the doting relationship that their elder siblings had.
Please, also keep in mind that Adelheid is still a teenage girl and may grow out of these jealousies…or they may fester as she grows more and more unhappy in the French court. Who knows? ;)

Walter
Walter is the eldest sibling and growing up he felt a need to protect his younger siblings, though he was not always able to. Walter spent most of his childhood in studies and training outdoors. He spent more time with his father then his siblings though he would rather have spent more time playing he understood from an early age that he was born to serve the kingdom of Bial.
Walter & Magdalena have an excellent relationship. He deeply loves his little sister and understood her need for love rather then duty. He likes to keep her company and have her advise on arts, music, and philosophy.
Walter & Joseph have they very common brother relationship. Joseph is ambitious and headstrong which can unnerve Walter. Walter tries to keep up with Joseph in a friendly sibling rivalry while showing him that having the power is not necessarily fun. Walter keeps Joseph close and greatly appreciates his advice.
Walter & Adelheid have a somewhat strained relation. Walter finds his youngest sister to be most like him proud and dutiful. Adelheid has a feisty spirit and has almost even beaten Walter in riding. Walter greatly sympathizes with his sisters worries and strains in being in a duty bound marriage. Walter perhaps overlooks Adelheid's true feelings because she is so much like him in accepting duty and never questioning it.
