Violet and
Leo decided to make
Rocco their last child. Six children was more than they had hoped for, and frankly was enough of a handful to keep them all on theri toes! With eight people, their four-bedroom house was no longer big enough, especially as
El, Thaddues, and
Mira were reaching their preteen years. But rather than leave the home they all loved, they renovated and added new rooms, designed by
Violet (who is an architect, after all). The single large attic that made up the second story was divided into two rooms, and another bedroom was added on the first floor.
El and
Annie moved out of the rooms with
Mira and Cat and into the attic rooms, while
Rocco was moved into the new downstairs bedroom. This gave everyone privacy and their own space, which made them all happy.
The years went by, and
El,
Mira, and
Thaddeus have all grown into teenagers.
El is on her high-school's basketball team and drama club, and has all the confidence and assuredness of the eldest child.
Thaddeus is on the school paper and in the band, where he plays the drums.
Mira is also on the school paper, and she is also a member of the drama club and school chorus. She is quite a talented in these areas, often getting leading stories or roles and solos.
Mira is still the observer, and keeps a journal of observations and story beginnings that she lets no one see.
Annie has recently entered her preteen years, entering the awkward phase where she's all elbows and feet. No longer the shy, solomn little girl she was, she is now always on the go and ready to move on to the next thing. She has recently started playing little league softball, a good use of her boundless energy and long legs. Cat will be joining her next year, along with
Jack. The two have remained best friends, and
Violet and
Leo wonder what will happen between them as they grow older. Cat is still Cat--their wild and barefoot child with leaves in her hair and mud in her nails.
Rocco, it seems, has taken over
Annie's solomness. He is quiet and a bit shy, but not overly so; he has many friends in his kindergarten class. He would rather make up elaborate games of pretend involving pirates and robots and horses than play sports, and like his sister
Mira he is very creative.
The children aren't the only things changing in the family. Recently, after saving and hoping and planning for years,
Leo was able to open his reataurant! Uncle
Leo's Gourmet Deli has become a popular place and has shown great success. Well-reviewed and popular with teenagers and adults alike,
Leo's dream is better than he could have hoped!
