In the mighty kingdom of Ontolakis.
Edmonda had been engaged to Hektor for about two months, and to establish good contact between them, Lav made them spend a lot of time together. Edmonda had always been kind of "cool", and never lost her head in feelings; to sum it up, she didn't get caught up in emotions. But now, with Hektor, she was a lot different. She had really fallen in love with the charming, handsome and talented Hektor, and for Edmonda, who wasn't used to feelings, this took her by surprise. She didn't know how to handle it. She totally idealized him and couldn't see any of his "bad" sides. Konstantina was happy to see this. Before she'd never had much in common with her cold and calculating sister, but now, when they talked about love and such "girly things", they could chat for hours. And it was also to Konstantina Edmonda first confessed about her pregnancy. One night she had spent with Hektor in the royal garden, they both had got carried away in love (and one thing had led to another). Now Edmonda suspected that she was pregnant. Konstantina looked worried.
"You should probably talk to mom or dad," Konstantina said, sounding doubting. Just like Edmonda knew, Konstantina thought that they might get mad. But Edmonda knew she had to tell them anyway.
Lav and Selena was NOT happy to learn that their eldest daughter were pregnant before her wedding. They called on Emmanouil to help them to figure out what to do.
"It's easy: she has to marry Hektor. Soon," he said, confirming what they all had thought. Lav and Selena were calmed but not pleased, since the people would soon find out why this wedding was coming so soon. Edmonda, on the other hand, was thrilled! They arranged a wedding the next week and soon Edmonda's belly started to grow. She was very happy with Hektor.
But then rumors started to spread, that Hektor had been "intimate" with one of the other noble ladies of the socialite in Helios. And her belly had started to grow, too. At first, Lav and Emmanouil tried to stop the rumors, but they were hard to deny. Hypatia Agathe was the lady that was now pregnant, and she claimed that Hektor was the father. And even worse; she claimed that they had slept together two weeks before the wedding with Edmonda.
Edmonda was furious. It didn't get better when Selena whispered to her that "that's the way all men behave, it doesn't matter how many children you give them, they just can't get enough, those selfish pigs!". Hektor begged to be believed when he said that he hadn't been intimate with her, or anyone else, but the evidence against him were too many. Besides, it seemed plausible that he, a handsome and well-known "Casanova" would do something like that. Lav, Selena, Emmanouil, Edmonda, everyone, was very angry with Hektor, but they knew they couldn't do anything now, when Edmonda was pregnant. That would harm her reputation very badly. After hour-long discussions they all (Lav, Selena, Emmanouil, Edmonda and Hektor, that is) decided that Hypatia was to live in the same section of the royal castle as Demi - the irony was not intended. Edmonda only had one condition - Hektor was never to visit or spend time with Hypatia unless a servant was with them. The servant was also to report everything that had happened between them to Edmonda and Hypatia would be punished if there were any flirting or hints or whatsoever. The people should not be informed about this arrangement.
Eight months after the wedding, both Edmonda and Hypatia went into labor. Edmonda gave birth to a daughter she and Hektor named Lysandra Chrysanthe Laurentia, Laurentia after her grandfather and aunt. Like any other baby, she looks adorable. Too bad neither Edmonda nor Hektor is "parent material". A nurse takes care of Lyra most of the time, when Laurentia isn't there. Laurentia LOVES her niece. She can't wait to have her own babies and is a little confused why Lav hasn't engaged her to anyone yet. Lav explains that he wants her to try to find a husband out of love first. This gives Laurentia troubles - she doesn't consider herself that charming, and she is very shy. Basically, she doesn't have that much contact with boys. And she can not get Pan out of her head, that boy she met once at a ball. She talked to her mother, and she said that they probably can look him up and see if they can invite their family.
And Hypatia: she also gave birth to a girl, Aella Vasiliki. Hypatia tries to spend as much time as possible outside the castle, since she doesn't feel comfortable there. It could be because of the fact that Edmonda openly disrespects her, and since Edmonda is the eldest princess, she is quite powerful.
After all, Selena decided to not try to kill her family in attempt to escape. She started to feel scared of Despina, and didn't know if she'd really save Iason when it came to call. Besides, it would be too much trouble to run away with all the kids. Despina was devastated to hear this, and she promised Selena that when her revenge would come, not even Selena would be spared.
Ikenna and Callisto are now twelve and just like his sister, Ikenna has a grown interest in animals. They have a calming effect on him. Callisto is busy with trying to please her father so he won't send her to those deadly boring tea parties. She is supposed to learn "manners" and "etiquette" there, but she hates it.
"It's too snobbish," she says. She rather spend time with the children of the castle staff ... and she has turned out to be quite a heat breaker. She doesn't "date" or have a boyfriend (she's not allowed to have that, unless it's a boy from the socialite), but just by being present, many boys fall in love with her. It's just not that she's pretty (if not to say beautiful), she's funny, easy-going, friendly and smart too! And she doesn't seem to care what people think about her ... which causes problem when she is supposed to give a speech to the people of Ontolakis. She always speaks her mind and doesn't care how it sounds to others. It gives Lav quite a head ache.
Jerónimo and Erasmus, "Jerry and Erry" are still best friends. They have now started their "prince trainings", which include training in combat, military strategy, martial arts, horse riding, duelling and politics, which will make them excellent soldiers. Along with that, they also study poetry, philosophy, dance, music, history and maths, which will make them intellectual and true gentlemen. Both of them are very talented - but only if they can work together. Emmanouil says that they're sworn by fate to be allies forever. Selena hates to hear such - she can not understand why the child that she took in and defended, now has "switched side" and play with "an enemy", one of Demi's children! Still, she can not be mad at him - she loves him too much.
Lav likes to see them play together - they keep his two parallell families together.
Iason is still more of a book worm - to his mother's disappointment. She has come to understand that Iason won't be ruler of Ontolakis. He's too dark, too shy, too quiet, too uncharming, too nerdy to take on that role. The people want someone like Erasmus, Lav or even Hektor - talented and charming. When Selena told Iason; "You will never be king of this kingdom unless you change!", he was actually kind of relieved. He didn't like to be center of attention, and he didn't want to rule a mighty kingdom and risk to be assassinated every day. He prefered to sit and read. But he never said that to his mother, because he knew that it would break her heart. Just as he knew that it would break her heart to know that he accompanied by Artemis almost every day. She sat in his room, reading his old books and listening to when he played that guitar-sounding instrument. She was quiet as a mouse, but he got a feeling they both liked that silence. Sometimes they exchanged brief smiles - they were both aware of how troubled they were by things they couldn't control, like how they couldn't be friends because of who their mothers were and how fatal it could be to take one step wrong in the castle (like Edmonda had done when she slept with Hektor before the wedding - one second of making a mistake and then everything is completely different). It made them feel helpless, and they couldn't confess that feeling to anyone .. except eachother. And that made them bond.
Two girls who didn't bond, at all, are Kassandra and Rhea. Much shaped by their mothers' point of view, they really dislike eachother. Lav is worried about this.
Demi is happy with life. Everyone give her compliments of looking so young and fresh, even though she has given birth to three children! She really does looks like a dewdrop in sunlight! And she can not help to wallow in the misfortune of Selena, since they dislike eachother so much.
