DH: Carbrey Declan (31)
DH: Jude Rory (26)
DS/DD/DS: Tiernan Alexander / Britta Liana / Shea Riley (nb)
Pet: Zara (Fennec Fox) “Dude, if you burn my zucchini, you’re sleeping with Zara tonight.” Carbrey joked as he stopped strumming his guitar and looked over to Jude attempting to grill their dinner on the back veranda of the house they‘d rented in Greece.

“Shut uuup,” Jude complained, but he grinned down at the grill as he turned the vegetables carefully. He’d never actually made grilled zucchini rolls, but Carbrey hadn’t asked so Jude didn’t feel the need to tell him.

Ever the pesterer, Carbrey kept right on complaining. “They‘re not even Greek. They‘re Italian. You‘re burning me Italian vegetables for dinner. I love you too, baby.”
Jude held up a skewer threateningly toward his husband, “You‘re about to eat with Zara.”
The fox looked up at the mention of her name so Jude tossed her a little piece of a carrot. She looked at it suspiciously for a moment before daring to sniff at it, but once she deemed it edible, it was picked up and carried back to under the chair where she’d been tied.

“Is it gonna be done before breakfast?” Carbrey joked and Jude shot him a look, but his cell phone went off loudly before he could reply. Zara’s ears perked up and she shrank further under her chair, but Jude just picked up his mobile from the table and smiled at her.
“Who is it?” Carbrey asked. “I hope they have an international plan.”
“I don‘t know,” Jude replied with a puzzled expression, but he pressed the ‘send’ button anyway and put the phone to his ear.
What they found out from the phone call wasn’t exactly welcomed news. Jude’s sister, Prudence, had passed away from complications during childbirth and had left behind three newborn babies. Not one. Three. Jude wasn’t ever close to his sister. She was considerably older than he was and didn’t have half the amount of responsibility, but nonetheless, he was her next of kin since they had both been orphaned when Jude was only six. He just sat there for a long time after he ended the phone call and thought things over before even attempting to tell Carbrey, but when he did, the man who had been picking on him only moments before wrapped him in a big hug instead and assured him they’d figure something out. They had to cut their vacation short, but the couple flew home to London the next day and went to meet with the social worker now in charge of the infants. Apparently, they were fraternal triplets. DNA testing had proved the children even had two different fathers and Jude was reminded of his sister‘s less than moral lifestyle. Since neither of the fathers had come forward and Prudence had never told anyone who they were (if she knew), the children’s only known relative was Jude (except for distant aunts and uncles that Jude couldn‘t even tell anyone the names of). The worker told him the infants were also underweight and suffering from heroin withdrawals caused by their mother’s drug use during the pregnancy. Jude agreed to go see them immediately. He knew that babies were innocent and tiny creatures. He’d seen friends’ children before. But these were his niece and nephews. They were the most family Jude could remember ever having. One look at Carbrey and they both knew there was no way they could walk out of the hospital without them.

They named them Tiernan, Britta, & Shea and they found out it took next to no effort to become overprotective fathers. They’re young; they’re terrified, and they’re going to make a lot of mistakes, but Jude knows they made the right decision. He remembers moving from family to family as a small child and he remembers wishing someone would take him home. He takes comfort in knowing their little ones will never have to think that. They’re home and loved already.
