HelpCompromise: A new kind of congrats: Sign-Ups
As namenerds, our artistic palate is very limited. We only have the opportunity to really express ourselves however many times we have children. The vast majority of the time, we draft and rework and dream and plot and organize and craft by ourselves, only our favorite names, with only the ideas important to us - but the actual art of naming is a joint process, and involves coöperation and compromise.
I have been working to devise a way to stimulate this process of compromise, since our ordinary modus operandi is so contrary to the actual way naming works. In this game, you and your SO, a random other namenerd with random taste, will name a baby together over 5 or 6 rounds. So this will require actual participation from both ends, or else you ruin the game and it's no fun. I'll leave the rounds up for a while before posting new ones though. It's a very inexact simulation, but it's a very early attempt at it, and I think it is valuable.
The really important thing to remember is that in this game, you're married or dedicated to the other person. Seriously. Pretend you're talking to your SO when you talk to the other person. If you don't have one, pretend it's your crush or a movie star or some nonexistent ideal who happens to have inexplicable taste. Someone you care a lot about. David or Sarah can go quickly from being "some sort of boring name" to being "dear one's favorite name" and thus have a very different effect on your psyche. If you actually play this psychological trick on yourself, it will really affect your willingness to compromise, which will make the game much more fulfilling.
Signups
This game works in pairs. So, the first person to sign up will sign up under me; the next person will sign up under them. That's one couple. The third person will begin a second couple, and the fourth person will complete it. Is this clear? It should look more like

I'll accept up to ten pairs.
-The first person of each pair to sign up will state a surname. In the default western tradition, this is the one the baby would take, but you and your partner can discuss it some and come up with a compromise. (If you are the second partner, you can come up with your own surname as well, if it is something you want to bring up.) It can be a really awesome surname if you want. Anyway, whatever you come up with, be sure to make it clear.
-Speak briefly about your naming philosophy, where you draw your inspiration, your style, etc.
-When I post the rounds I will post as replies the results of the previous round, with the surnames of the subject line - under that post is where discussion should take place.
-Assignment for next round: think about the names you would really actually like to give a child.

I like classic names, and names that comes from Latin. I like names that evoke a history behind it. I'm not worried if a name is "boring" or not.

I like various types of names. I do like some common classics (Katherine, Alexander, Edward), nature names, non-religious virtues, mythological names, names from various ethnicities, some unisex names for girls, names with nice meanings... And I find boys harder to name than girls.

I like traditional names as well. Especially, English, Irish and German. I dislike Bible names that are trendy or over used, but I like the underused ones. I especially like saints' names and names from history, or names derived from them. I don't like nicknames used as first names or creative spelling.

I seem to be particularly attracted to popular names from England, French names, biblical names, and names from history or mythology. I like more boys names than girl names and thus will be more flexible when naming a boy as I am very fussy about girl names.
Currently my favourites include Kitty / Kate, Emmeline, Lucienne, Scarlet, and Hazel and for boys I like Leo, Ptolemy, Loki, Dominic, and Balthazar.

I think you have nice taste in names, though a little different than mine. I like classic names as well, but I also like some exotic traditional names too. I also like saints names that are somewhat unusual, but not too far off. I would like my children to have names that are not too common, but not bizarre either.
Some favorites:
G: Genevieve, Penelope, Rosemary, Felicity, Susanna
B: Augustine, Leo, Pascal, Blaise, Jonas
Also, I told my grandmother Genevieve, who is now dead, that I would name my first daughter after her, so I feel kinda tied to that. Plus it's just my favorite name ever.

I tend to like old, obscure names, but I love the established classics. I am a devout Catholic, though, so an added thing is that saint names are important for me.

I personally don't tend to graviate to names that are overly popular (the whole possibility of 6 Jack's in one class tends to put me off). I like names that aren't as commonly used, but without being 'made-up', kre8tive, hard to pronounce or spell :)
I do like traditional names, but usually more as middle names and I'm very keen on honouring names as middle names. I'm not really a fan of unisex names.

My taste is kind of all over the place. I dislike creatively-spelled and/or made up names and boys' names on girls. I pull a lot of names from characters that I like, in video games, books, etc. I like a lot of names in theory, but would prefer to use less common names on children as I grew up with a top 20 name for my age group and always hated it.

I love an assortment of names. I don't really know what my style is because I love everything from Eulalie and Ottilie to Charlotte and Isabelle. For girls, I love long feminine names and very girly middle names. For boys, I love masculinity and non-traditional names. I think that is how I would describe my style... untraditional(:

I do not like kre8tyv spellings either. I love names from literature. The names I like tend to be fairly unusual but also have solid foundations. They tend to have an element of 'spunkiness' to them. I really like naming after people throughout history that I admire.
