About a week ago, the day before I went into labour with Silas, my parents thought it was a good time to break the news to me: I've got a half-sister. Apparently my dad had no idea of her existence. Back when I was about two years old, my parents had a huge row and ended up separating. A few months into the separation, my dad began dating a woman. Some time later he and my mum made up and recomposed their marriage. My mum knew Dad had been seeing other women during their time-out, but she had no problem with it because they were, well, separated. What they didn't know is that this woman had become pregnant and given birth to a girl, my father's daughter. The girl is twenty years old now. Her mother recently died after a long and painful illness, and told her the name of her until then unknown father before passing away. This was a couple of months ago. She found my (and her) father, explained the situation and got a DNA test to make sure she had found the right man. My parents are still gobsmacked, but apparently the girl is very nice and they're warming up to her. I'll be meeting her as soon as I recover from giving birth!
