Name enthusiasts, like myself, may remember the PBS presentation this past summer of Alan Berliner's entertaining film on names: "The Sweetest Sound". Awhile back I wrote to Alan asking him if he'd like to make a "guest appearance" here on Mike C's Behind the Name. I heard from Alan just last night, explaining why he hadn't been able to write back sooner. With his kind permission, I'm including part of what he wrote to me here:
"Please forgive my delay in getting back to you. My father died on August 19th, then I went to a (long ago planned) trip to show my work for a week in Buenos Aires, and then.... Shock and horror. I live below Canal Street in the 'war zone,' very close to the World Trade Center. My neighborhood looks like it was hit by a neutron bomb. I've seen things (with my own eyes) I'll never forget for the rest of my life."
Our thoughts are with you, Alan. Our condolences to you on the loss of your father, and our fervent hope that you take care and stay safe.
