I used to think that "Elio" was the italianized version of Elias (or Eliyah) or the Italian variant of the latinization of Aeolus (god of winds), but now I would say it's more akin to the sun god "Helios" whose name means "sun" in Spanish he is called "Helio" likewise in Italian but in Italian there is no such letter as the "h" (which in Spanish is soundless)... So make your choice...
