Message: "spelling a Polish name"

I am probably going to sound like an idiot, but I don't know how to spell my grandfather's first name. I think the closest I can write to what it sounded like to me is Vwadek. Does anyone know how that would actually be spelled?

I am trying to track down an old family friend but I am not sure of the correct spelling of the surname name. I believe it is Gazarias.
The family friend was Joseph Gazarias and was believed to be living in the Rugby area of the UK.
Any help with the spelling or information where Joseph might be would be gratefully received.

Just to add to your confusion, In Polish and German, Hawaian a W is pronounced as a V

I guess it would be spelled Vladek, with a special Polish letter instead of "L" - it looks like "l", but with a stroke in the middle...can't explain it really. Any Polish speakers?

I have a feeling "Wladek" is it...I remember that some of the guys he worked with used to call him "Walt" so if Wladek starts with a W instead of a V maybe that's where they got it from.

Yes

Poles (like Germans) use "w" to represent the sound of the English "v". Check out the Polish names on this site:
