Anyone know where this one comes from? Seems to be a Spanish feminine name, once belonging to a queen of Asturias and Leon.

According to a spanish book about names, Ximena is an ancient form for Jimena, because in the Middle Ages, the sound [x] was written with an X. In the XVIII century, the spanish ortograph changed and the sound [x] started to be written with a J or a G.
Jimena (and Jimeno (m)) is an ancient form for Simeón. It comes from Navarra.
By the way, a famous Jimena was the wife of El Cid. When her husband died, in 1099, she became Queen of Valencia until her death, in 1101.

A half-baked approach...
The site you list also defines Jimena as "she who listens to Yavé (presumably Yhwh/Jehovah)." The Simon part fits in given the definition you post. And I can hear superficial sound-similarities between "Jehovah" and "Jimena".

According to anothere site, Ximen, Ximon and Ximun mean "God has heard" in Hebrew. I was thrown off however by www.totallyjewish.com which claims that Ximena is Greek for "heroine" :P Personally I cant see any connection. Other sites also claim that Ximena is related to Xenia , which I also seriously doubt...

I have reference sources listing "Ximena" either as being a Spanish feminine version of "Simon", or being Greek and meaning "heroine". Like Pavlos, I can't fathom the Greek connection either. Other reference sources simply come right out and say that the origin and meaning of the name are "unknown".
The historical Ximena was the lover and then wife of El Cid, and her name also appears sometimes in the Basque form of "Chimene".
Mike, I love your new FAQ. This, though, cracked me up: "RTFM stands for Read The First Message (though it stands for other things elsewhere)..." :)
