Could it be a pet form of Abel or Alban? Or a masculine pet form of Albina? Or a masculine variation of Abelone?

I liked the suggestion of Alban the best.
I believe the place Alba from which the Roman family Albinius came from included modern day Albania so it would make sense that the name is Albanian!
