Does anyone know?
I was curious if anyone knew how far the name Charlotte dated back to? I really like the name. But I love historical names, names used throughout history. I was hoping Charlotte was a name used throughout history because I really like it. So does anyone know or have any opinions as to when they think it dated or anything like that? Thanks so much for any suggestions you can give me. Its most appreciated :)Also is there a certain time period really known for the name Charlotte? Such as, for example the Victorian era or Colonial times or Medieval era etc. Thanks again :)___________________________________________________________

I don't think it was used in Britain until the Hanoverian dynasty moved in - early eighteenth century, therefore. It gained momentum, became one of the names Jane Austen used, and as far as I recall Dickens used it more for working-class women and children than for his (relatively) posh characters. Then it faded out, and now it's fading back in, along with Charlene and Charlize and such.I don't know when it came to prominence in Germany, and if it was a popular name before it became a royal one, but someone will - Satu, probably! All the best

More information included.....Also, upon investigating the name Charlotte I noticed it was a name used among royalty. There were princess Charlotte's and even a Queen Charlotte. So therefore is a historical name. But I still am curious to when it was most popularly used in a certain era and also how far it might be dated back to. Thank you for any suggestions you may have for me :)
