Is the name 'Makai" Russian? I like this name, and was just curious to know.

It sounds like a variation on Malachi or Micah, perhaps from a different language. I cannot be sure on that though.

The name does not sound Russian to me.

The "Think Baby Names" website which in my opinion is one of the better "Baby Names" sites thinks Makai is a form of Michael. Well, why not, but hard to tell without further information backing this up:

I was also assuming that Makai came from Michael or Mikhail.

I would guess it's Hawaiian...but I don't know the meaning, sorry.
