There was a famous Ouida, which was the pen-name of the 19th century French novelist
Louisa de la Ramee (who is perhaps best known for her short story "A Dog of Flanders"). It's believed that she made up the name as a sort of nickname for "
Louisa ".
The name "Ouida" can also be interpreted to mean "yes-yes", from the French word "oui" for "yes" and the Russian word "da" for "yes". In this respect, "Ouida" becomes an occult name, due to its similarity to the word "Ouija" (meaning "yes-yes" in French and
German ). And, as you probably already know, the Ouija Board is used in seances and stuff for communicating with the spirit world.
