Confused about Chloe
How did the name Chloe get from Greek mythology into the Bible?
Replies
I wonder if it caught on as a name due to the similarity to the French name Clotilde
Why would it?

It's not just a mythological name--it's a Greek personal name, and Greek was a language widely used around the Mediterranean at the time the New Testament books were written (and they were written in that language). The name Chloe appears in Paul's first letter to the Corinthians (1:11) in reference to a woman in the congregation. Quite understandably, as an inhabitant of the Greek city of Corinth, she bears a Greek name.
It's not uncommon today to find modern Greeks with names such as Antigone.
