Cheryl
Any ideas on what made Cheryl jump from the 100s to 36 in a year?

It's probably mostly the two actresses mentioned below, but the first famous Cheryl, theatrical producer Cheryl Crawford (1902-1986) would have also been much in the news during 1942 and 1943 as producer of two hit musicals, "Porgy and Bess" and "One Touch of Venus".

From the page for Cheryl:“It seems to have been popularized in America by
the actress Cheryl Walker (1918-1971), who had a prominent role in the 1943 movie Stage Door Canteen.”

My guess is actress Cheryl Miller, back than a 19-day old baby, appearing in the film 'Casanova Brown' (1944).
