Let's talk about the name Janet...I'm just curious.
Does anyone know if the name Janet was used as a first name, before the 20th century? As this site says, it was a medieval diminutive of Jane. However, I'm curious to know if there were records of usage, say...pre-1800? For example, this site says that it was used during 1500s England:https://www.mygen.com/users/outlaw/English%20Names%20of%20the%201500s%20-%20Outlawe.htmThere are records of a Jennet Device, a 9 year old girl from The Pendle Witch trials (from 1612. Her story is very interesting to read about). The name Jennet is a Medieval English variant of Janet, so that makes me wonder...was Janet only a nickname for Jane, or was it a full name, too?
